Paris Olympics 2024: Dramatify Makes Olympic Debut
Dramatify makes a remarkable debut at the Paris 2024 Olympics with Finnish Public Broadcaster YLE, showcasing groundbreaking content planning and broadcasting tools.
Dramatify is stepping into the Olympic limelight with our inaugural participation at the Paris 2024 games, partnering with Finnish Public Broadcaster YLE. Get ready for an exhilarating ride as YLE brings you around 700 hours of live content from both the Olympics and Paralympics 2024.
The Olympics is the Ultimate Sporting Event
The Olympic Summer Games are among the world’s most prestigious sporting events, and expectations for the Paris 2024 Games are sky-high. YLE is poised to deliver non-stop, multi-platform coverage – over 700 hours of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. With live broadcasts on YLE TV2, YLE Areena, and Radio Finland, every day of the competition will be packed with excitement.
Paris 2024 Olympics: Centralised Production, Global Reach
The live feed for the Olympics is centrally produced by the Olympic Broadcasting Services, and broadcasters worldwide purchase the rights to air the event. With countless races and competitions happening simultaneously from July 24th to September 8th, meticulous content curation and planning are crucial for successful coverage. Audiences’ interests can shift in an instant, whether it’s a favourite athlete stumbling or an underdog triumphing unexpectedly.
Paris 2024 Olympics: A Year-Long Content Planning Marathon
Planning for an event of this magnitude is no small feat. YLE’s preparation for the Paris Olympics kicked off in August 2023. They received initial schedules and rough plans, but detailed daily content planning is essential, especially with constant updates from organisers, sporting federations, teams, and athletes. The outcomes of qualifications leading up to the games significantly influence what content a broadcaster prioritises.
The Dramatify Shelf: Purpose-Built Content Planning for the Olympics
Enter the Dramatify Shelf – a cutting-edge content planning tool integrated with Dramatify’s Rundown tool, created in collaboration with YLE’s Sports and Entertainment production teams. This tool enables production teams to create, categorise, and tag content for easy retrieval, from placeholders to precise scripts, including automatic teleprompter content and cue cards.
Repeated content like graphics, trailers, promos, ads, and credits can be created and synced across episodes and rundowns from a central hub. When schedules start to firm up, the team can effortlessly move content from the Shelf to the correct rundown or return it for later use.
Seamless Digital Rundowns
Dramatify’s rundowns are fully digital and accessible to all team members – from producers and production managers to reporters, hosts, studio staff, camera operators, and translators. The Rundown tool offers various views and functionalities tailored to different production stages and roles, from fast planning grid views to distraction-free script views for reporters and hosts, to technical rundowns for shot planning and live broadcasts.
A read-only, shareable version allows teams to quickly share a rundown with staff who don’t need a Dramatify login, with an option to set a shutdown date for access. It naturally also includes functionality for live broadcasts.
All-Digital Workflow, Anywhere Access
Dramatify’s cloud-based production platform is accessible on any device with a web browser, enabling team members to work from anywhere. Whether producing segments from home, the main studio, or on-site at Olympic venues around Paris, the workflow remains seamless and paperless. Team members can use their preferred devices – from computers for writing content and running live shows to tablets for receiving rundowns and shot lists in real-time and mobiles for quick updates on the go.
Reporters in Paris can write dialogue directly into Dramatify, which appears on teleprompters in YLE’s Olympic Studio in Helsinki within seconds.
Proven Success in Sports Coverage
YLE’s sports team first used Dramatify’s rundowns and Shelf solution during the 2022 Athletics World Championships in Oregon, USA. The convenience of digital rundowns led to greater team engagement and eliminated the need for daily team meetings. Since then, the tools have been refined for a truly seamless experience, supporting coverage of countless international championships and two seasons of the weekend sports show—over 130 episodes with 6-14 hours of live broadcast each.

We eagerly anticipate a spectacular Olympic experience in the beautiful city of Paris and wish for successful games for all involved!
